Opening hours: The attraction and fascination of this museum is that visitors are offered a complete “package” of the culture and history associated with the large industrial windmills that made the Zaan region famous. The museum provides visitors with a comprehensive impression of the rise and fall of a once thriving industry based on wind power through the collection of artifacts. An impressive item is the so called Windmill panorama sketching the view over the river Zaan around 1900. The painting measures 2 x 11 metres. Besides a large collection of windmill models, the museum is showing various aspects of life in ancient times, not readily evident when visiting the windmills themselves. |
